An extra layer to keep off the chills (invaluable on an aeroplane or other air-con, or when the sun has finally gone down but you don’t want to move indoors), maybe provide a light covering for bare shoulders if you are sight-seeing, be small enough to tuck in your bag when not needed, and finally bring some summery colours to your wardrobe even if today’s forecast has you wishing you hadn’t just stored all your jumpers away for the summer!
